Lend a Hand for

Safe School Reconstruction

The AAa/e (Asian American Architects and Engineers Association), along with the  Japanese and Chinese Chambers of Commerce, are planning to launch a technical assistance and the fundraising efforts to assist the reconstruction of schools in the earthquake-hit area.

AAa/e with Asian American resources will provide seismic engineering and technical support for improving the safety of the local school designs.

Based upon the findings, prototype designs will be developed and the fund raising effort will be initiated for the construction.

Speaker

Kit Miyamoto: The Founder of Miyamoto International, a structural engineering firm. Miyamoto International and Global Risk Miyamoto dispatched a team of engineers to China to assess the structural integrity of existing buildings and infrastructure, provide support to clients, collect data, and document lessons learned. The team was the first foreign engineers to investigate the site. This report contains detailed descriptions of findings, identifies lessons learned, and provides solutions to mitigate future losses. Kit is back from his investigation trip in the earthquake-hit area, one of a few Western engineers to visit and investigate what caused the devastation in clash of school buildings.

What Is Our Next Step

We have been in contact with local non-profit organizations to develop our project into fruition including such organization as Sowers Action, a Hong-Kong based NGO that has been doing school construction and reconstruction in China for several years.

Based upon the Safe School design prototypes, the fund requirement will be carefully analyzed with the help of local non-profit organizations to launch a fund raising campaign.
